The amazing corporeal mime artist, Tania Coke, http://www.tarinainanika.com/, nominated me to do this 5 Day art challenge – so here’s a window into beginnings, ‘growings’, right up to what’s happening now
Day 1: Had the most amazing art teacher at school, Sasha Leech, http://www.sasha-leech.co.uk/SashaLeech/Home.html, who I nominate next! A fantastic artist & uncompromising teacher who pushed me to grow my art work as much as my musical education – long live the Violent Femmes!!
With his encouragement, I went onto Fine Art at university – these pictures are from that time – exploring the question ‘Art or Craft?’ I drew all kinds of ‘working hands’ & ‘cobles’, the hand made, fishing boats of Northumberland, hands of the boat builders, turned drawings into etchings – it all culminated in my university exhibition with the hands drawn in charcoal on large canvas ‘sails’ hung from wooden beams, displayed with one wooden coble, named ‘Grey’
